The two actors, who confirmed their relationship in 2014 after meeting on the set of The Americans and share a 10-year-old son named Sam, also share space on this year's nominations list.

Russell earned two nods for her work on The Diplomat: one for lead actress in a drama and another in best drama series, where she also serves as an executive producer. Rhys secured two nominations for The Consultant—for lead actor in a comedy and best comedy series, also as an executive producer—and an additional nomination for lead actor in a limited series for The Beast in Me. This year, the couple has notched eight career Emmy nominations each, with Rhys having previously won in 2018 for The Americans.

Arriving at the Peacock Theater, Rhys and Russell coordinated their looks in classic black. Rhys sported a black tuxedo, while Russell donned a high-neck, low-back black halter gown by Khaite.
