HBO has officially greenlit a "Succession" spin-off series, and the details are enough to send fans of the Emmy-winning drama into a spiral of anticipation. The new show, titled "The Vault," will focus on the early days of Logan Roy's media empire in the 1970s and 1980s, tracing his ruthless rise from a scrappy newspaper publisher to a global media baron. The most shocking revelation: Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance will portray the young Logan Roy.

Creator Jesse Armstrong, who will executive produce, personally selected Rylance after an extensive search for an actor capable of capturing Logan's intelligence, cruelty, and buried vulnerability without doing a Brian Cox impression. "Mark understood immediately that this isn't an imitation — it's an origin story," Armstrong said in a statement. "He's bringing something entirely new to the character while honoring everything Brian built. When I saw his audition tape, I knew we had our man."

The series will be set primarily in London and New York, following Logan's initial foray into the American media landscape and the early formation of Waystar Royco. Key characters will include Logan's first wife and a cast of 1970s media rivals, politicians, and fixers. HBO's chief content officer, Casey Bloys, called "The Vault" one of the most exciting projects in the network's development pipeline. "We always said we'd only return to the 'Succession' universe if there was a story worth telling," Bloys said. "Jesse brought us something extraordinary — a Shakespearean rise-to-power narrative that stands completely on its own."
