George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, along with their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, have evacuated their home in Brignoles, France, due to ongoing wildfires. The couple confirmed their departure in a letter addressed to Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond, a copy of which was shared on July 30, 2026, at 3:01 AM.

The devastating wildfires, which have spread across Europe, forced the Clooney family to leave their residence in Brignoles, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. George Clooney expressed his concern in the letter, stating, "At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment." He added, "As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasize 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole."

The blaze has reportedly consumed an area four times the size of Paris, leading to the evacuation of 220,000 people, including the Clooneys and their neighbors. The Oscar winner reiterated his affection for the area, saying, "We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.” The Clooneys have established deep roots in the French countryside, with George previously stating last year, "We live on a farm in France."

Despite having "hated" farm life while growing up in Kentucky, the 65-year-old actor now appreciates the benefits of rural living for his children. "They have a much better life," George explained, noting his concerns about raising his kids in Hollywood's culture. He believes that in France, "they kind of don’t give a s--t about fame," and instead of "walking around worried about paparazzi," his children are more engaged with their family and community. "They’re not on their iPads, you know?" he said. "They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in."

While the couple, including Amal, 48, maintains homes in England, Italy, and near George's family in Kentucky, they also spent time in New York City last year during George's Broadway run in Good Night, and Good Luck. In a February 2025 interview, the Ocean's Eleven actor reflected, “Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life. Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance of a normal life.”
