Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have revealed how their connection to Jay-Z finally earned them "cool parent" status with their three children: Michael, 29, Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23.

The couple, who met on the set of All My Children in 1995, shared on an October 21 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark that their kids often gave them "flak" for being outdated during their teenage years. Ripa recalled a time when her children "were mercilessly making fun of us in front of their friends," summarizing their mindset as, "We're not cool."

Consuelos then admitted, "We never dropped it on them that we were in a Jay-Z video" before that moment, adding, "We did it in front of their friends." The pair had appeared in Jay-Z's 2003 "Change Clothes" music video alongside Pharrell Williams, but their children initially struggled to believe the story.

The turning point came years later, when Consuelos, 55, took his youngest son, Joaquin, to a Knicks championship game. "Joaquin and I went to a Knicks game, one of the championship games last year," Consuelos explained. He noted that Joaquin "always wants to be like eight feet away from me" and seemed "embarrassed of his dad" as they entered the stadium's VIP entrance.

However, their luck changed when Consuelos bumped into Jay-Z. "He turns around, and he sees me, and he goes, 'Hey, man!'" Consuelos shared, re-enacting his son's stunned reaction as Jay-Z greeted him with a hug and handshake before being introduced to Joaquin.

Ripa, 56, recounted Joaquin's excited reaction upon returning home from the game. "They come home from the game. I'm asleep, the door bursts open, Joaquin flies in," she laughed. "'Did you know Dad knows Jay-Z?!' I go, 'I told you we were in a Jay-Z video.' He goes, 'I thought you were lying.'" Ripa quipped, "The internet exists, guys. Google."
