Stranger Things Final Season Trailer Drops and Fans Are Already Crying

Netflix has finally released the first full trailer for the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things," and the three-minute preview has sent the show's massive global fanbase into an emotional tailspin. The trailer, which dropped Monday at noon EST, reveals a darker, more apocalyptic tone than any previous season and confirms that not every beloved character will survive the battle against Vecna.

The preview opens with a time jump, showing the core group — Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Will (Noah Schnapp) — now in their early twenties, scattered across different cities and seemingly trying to live normal lives. But a chilling voiceover from Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) promises that "Hawkins was only the beginning," as footage reveals the Upside Down breaching into major cities worldwide.

The Duffer Brothers, who created the series and directed all episodes of the final season, said in a joint statement that the conclusion will honor nine years of storytelling while delivering the most ambitious spectacle the show has ever attempted. "This is the ending we've had planned since season two," they wrote. "Every character arc, every mystery, every thread comes together. We laughed, we cried, and we think you will too."

The trailer has already broken Netflix records, amassing over 150 million views across platforms within 12 hours of release. The final season, consisting of eight supersized episodes ranging from 75 to 150 minutes each, will premiere on Netflix on July 4, 2026 — a deliberate callback to the show's season three premiere date. Pre-release tracking suggests it could become the most-watched Netflix title of all time.
