L7 rocker Jennifer Finch dead at 59 days after announcing aggressive brain cancer battle
Jennifer Finch, the bassist for the alt-rock band L7, has passed away at the age of 59. Her death comes just four days after she publicly revealed her battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The news was shared on her social media today, July 19, 2026.
A statement on her social media read, “We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time.”
Finch had recently undergone multiple surgeries to treat her condition, and her fellow 90s rock musicians and fans had rallied to support her. Despite her health struggles, loved ones shared photos of the revered rocker in good spirits from her hospital bed, displaying her surgery scars.
The multi-talented artist, also known for her photography and writing, was scheduled to join L7 on their upcoming "The Last Hurrah" farewell tour later this year. However, she had reported experiencing “serious complications” due to her illness.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to assist with her ongoing care. Loved ones explained that despite initial hopes for successful treatment, including radiation, Finch had encountered a “relentless series of setbacks.” An Instagram post regarding the fundraiser stated, “After her diagnosis, there was hope that treatment would give her a path back to some version of normal life. Instead, complications brought multiple surgeries and a relentless series of setbacks. Jennifer is now living with significant physical limitations and requires a level of care that love, friendship, and sheer determination cannot safely provide around the clock. So we’re calling in the community.”
The fundraiser, which is nearing its $350,000 goal, received support from fellow rockers such as Garbage, Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill, and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam. Finch's L7 bandmates—Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, and Demetra Plakas—confirmed that she had urged them to proceed with "The Last Hurrah" tour, their final performances in the US, which are set to begin in October. The band shared on social channels, “The Last Hurrah tour was planned along with Jennifer when all four of us were in good health and spirits. Although she will not be able to join us for the upcoming US dates, Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned. We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority.”
