The Tavrichesky Symphony Orchestra, led by principal conductor Mikhail Golikov, is set to perform at the Taurida Palace — a space the ensemble shares not only its name with, but also part of its own creative biography.

The concert “Tavrichesky at the Taurida. The Return” is built as a programme at the crossroads of different musical eras. The first half features works from the classical repertoire — music of the grand symphonic tradition whose expressive power holds up regardless of the era.

The second half is devoted to the music of Anatoly Kalvarsky — a composer, pianist and author well known to the St. Petersburg musical public. His work lives at the junction of the academic and the contemporary tradition while keeping a recognisable authorial voice.

“For us, returning to the Taurida Palace is not just a concert in a historic space — it is a continuation of the orchestra's own story. I find it important that the classical tradition does not exist apart from today's musical language. Contemporary music must be performed and championed, without fear of taking risks and opening new intonations for the audience. It is precisely in this dialogue — between heritage, a living authorial voice and the time we live in — that real concert energy is born.”

The orchestra's return to the Taurida Palace, in this sense, reads not only as a nod to its own history but also as an attempt to bring together, in a single evening, the enduring classical canon and music written from another era altogether. For St. Petersburg, where a historic space often becomes a participant in a cultural event in its own right, the format feels entirely natural.
