Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys reportedly had quite the adventurous time on the set of "The Americans," with Russell revealing they "had sex all the time" while in disguise. The co-stars, whose on-screen romance as Soviet KGB intelligence officers posing as an American married couple on the critically acclaimed FX show blossomed into a real-life relationship, found creative ways to get intimate.
Russell shared details during her appearance on Chelsea Handler’s podcast, which dropped on October 8. She recalled, "We were falling in love and staying up all night and having sex all the time and just wearing disguises, like, I’m f***ing [in] crazy wigs and wearing pearls." She continued, "When have you ever worn pearls and [been] f***ing in trailers and f***ing everywhere. I mean, it was insanity."
The actress, 50, looked back fondly on those days, describing the experience as "so fun and sneaky, and sexy, and so good." Russell and Rhys, 51, began dating in late 2013 after her nearly seven-year marriage ended. "The Americans" aired for six seasons, concluding in 2018.
During the podcast, the "Felicity" alum also discussed why she and Rhys, who have been together for 13 years and share a 10-year-old son, Sam, are in no rush to marry. "I’ve had a big party, you know. I get to dress up all the time, and I know for a lot of people, marriage is something different," Russell explained. "People used to be married to have a credit card. We can have credit cards now. I don’t need my last name to go away."
Additionally, Russell revealed that she gave Rhys permission not to thank her during his two acceptance speeches at the 2026 Emmys last month. Rhys won for lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for "The Beast in Me" and for lead actor in a comedy series for "Widow’s Bay." She recounted telling him, "Take me off your plate. Like, you don’t have to thank me. I know you love me." She added, "I don’t care if you want to."
