Lisa Faulkner, known for co-hosting "John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen" with her husband John Torode, has revealed a recent breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery.
The 54-year-old presenter and actress, who had been noticeably quiet on social media, shared her health update in an Instagram video on Thursday afternoon, July 2. "I just wanted to come on because I know I've been quiet on here," Lisa explained. "The reason being, that I've had to have surgery because I've had the very early stages of breast cancer. I had surgery two weeks ago and it was quite a big op."
Lisa, who married former "Masterchef" star John Torode in 2019, confirmed that the surgery was successful, and she now faces a course of radiotherapy. She elaborated, "But it's all good and I've had my results back and they've got everything out so it's all clear and I just need now to have some radiotherapy in a few weeks. I just wanted to say I've got a bit of healing to do but I'm good, I'm well and feeling so much better and I'm so grateful that I went for my mammogram."
She urged women to prioritize their mammograms, stating, "I just wanted to say don’t put them off, go, because they found this and without that mammogram it wouldn’t have been picked up. Thank you to our wonderful NHS and the fact we can have these mammograms and we can get treatment early."
Following her announcement, Lisa, who has appeared in "Holby City" and "EastEnders," received an outpouring of support. Fellow "EastEnders" actress Emma Barton sent her love, while Catherine Tyldesley, known for her role as Eva Price, offered "Sending love." Angela Lonsdale, a recent addition to the cast of "Coronation Street," wrote, "Big love to you lisa x x," and Tamzin Outhwaite added, "Love you Lise. You've got this my darling." Kate Lawler from "This Morning" commented, "Oh darling. Sending you huge amounts of love and healing hugs. I'm so pleased you went for your mammogram x", and Julia Bradbury wished her, "Sending love Lisa. Hope you find some peace and lots of rest."
This health news follows Lisa's earlier statements about embracing new challenges in her 50s, particularly after her mother, Julie, passed away from throat cancer at 44. She told "Good Housekeeping" earlier this year, "I feel lucky to get to an age where you've got more to give and you're not invisible. Women are brilliant and we're picking each other up and looking out for each other. Life's short. My mum died when she was 44 and didn't get to have that second act. So I grab it." This year, Lisa returned to the stage for the first time in over two decades, starring in a touring adaptation of the 1992 film "Single White Female."
