Former MLB Star Gorkys Hernandez's Wife Dies in Venezuela Earthquake
Former MLB player Gorkys Hernandez has announced the tragic death of his wife, Deisy Maria Tovar De Hernandez, who was killed in the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week. Hernandez shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram Saturday, accompanying an emotional caption with a photo of Deisy.
In his Instagram post, Hernandez referred to Deisy as "the queen of my life" and "the most beautiful, beautiful, precious, the best woman in the world," noting that she "always looked after him in the hard times." He expressed his wish for Deisy to "fly high with God" and pleaded for her to "guide me to move forward and lift our family."
Reports indicate that Deisy was at the Hotel Eduards in Macuto at the time of the earthquake. She was traveling with Gorkys, who was scheduled to play a game for the Venezuela league's La Guaira Delfines. While players reportedly rushed back to the hotel to search for family members, Deisy could not be saved.
Gorkys Hernandez played in Major League Baseball for parts of six seasons between 2012 and 2019, primarily with the San Francisco Giants. He also had stints with the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Miami Marlins. The date of his marriage to Deisy remains undisclosed.
